Taxing Workout

I don’t know about you but I love to compete.  Participating in sports and being part of a team has always been an intricate part of my life and identity for as long as I can remember.  You name it and I have played it: Lacrosse, Tennis, Ice Hockey, Baseball, Golf, Bacci, the list goes on.

Unfortunately, as many of us know age takes its toll and we tend to slow down.  After a battle with dreaded Lymes disease I was starting to feel run down and I knew I needed to use it or lose it.

A friend let me borrow a copy of P90X a high intensity home workout program.  I tried the program, which is really taxing, stuck with it and feel better than I have in a long time.  I told a friend and former college Tennis team partner what I was doing and he suggested I join him and his college team in their off season Plyometrics workout program.

Now I was feeling a lot better than I had for quite a while, but work out with a bunch of 20 something top notch athletes?  I mean I am literally twice these kids age.  Well the competitive spirit took over and I decided to give it a shot, so I asked my friend it they had a set of jumper cables around just in case.

I was nervous getting started not knowing if I could do it or if I would embarass myself but it has been great.  It has been really challenging, but like any good challenge it is pushing me to the next level and really ramping up my desire to get in great shape.  It’s also great to get back out there with a bunch of competitive athletes and get back to my college roots.
